Making Sense of Job Ads
Understanding just what is looked for in a job advertisement is quite important in your chances of
getting an interview. You can find help from a recruitment agency or employment agency like
South West Recruitment who service Smithfield, Wetherill Park, Fairfield, Guildford, Yennora, Greystanes, Bankstown and Liverpool areas.
The most important thing you need to do is address the job criteria. Many people often apply for a job without taking the time to think about what is needed or required from the employer. While you are looking through the job ads in the paper, try to read between the lines of a job advertisement and decide if you are the right person for the position. The knowledge of what the job requires can mean the difference between failure and the next step toward the job.
Now that many job ads can be found on the internet, it means that the descriptions can, and usually are a lot more detailed. This means you can have a much greater chance to customise your application to meet the requirements.
If the ad is asking for an amount of experience, this means that the employer is looking for somebody that has worked in a similar role before. If you don’t have the required years of experience, don't let this stop you from applying. You just need to show that you have the experience required already. In the end, recruiters just want to know that you understand the demands and pressures of the job you’re applying for and that you have the skills and maturity to handle the job.
The most important thing for you to do is address each of the essential items listed in the advertisement. The reason for the essential items is that the recruiters go over the applications based on these set requirements.
If the advertisement mentions it wants an “outgoing and highly motivated candidate” then you should just try and list your achievements at work, as it’s a hard task to demonstrate on paper that you are highly motivated.
The best way to demonstrate your computer literacy is to go over the software packages you have experience with. Give details about the version or versions that you are the most familiar with. It’s good to show that you can use the newer versions of software because it demonstrates to the employer that you have an interest and you keep yourself up to date with the IT industry.
Finally, if they want somebody with “a good track record”, this means you should provide some examples and illustrates your skills and experience.
Many job advertisements these days do not say for which company the position is open, especially if it is being advertised through a recruitment agency. You can call the company on the phone number listed to find out about the position, be it a temporary, permanent or contracted position.
